SIMCO’s scope of work included the design and coordination of detailed Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) plans in support of structural bridge repairs at over 70 locations in three boroughs. These repairs addressed critical bridge deficiencies and “red flags” discovered during routine bridge inspections.
In addition to local streets, projects were located along the Van Wyck Expressway (I-678), Long Island Expressway (I-495), Gowanus Expressway (I-278), Belt Parkway, Clearview Expressway (I-295), Grand Central Parkway, Cross Island Parkway, and Jackie Robinson Parkway.
The work zone traffic control/MPT design involved temporary and long term lane closures to address construction staging. Traffic operations impacts during construction were assessed to maximize safety and operations and minimize inconvenience to the public. In addition to typical traffic control devices layout, measures were implemented for complex ramp/intersection alignments, traffic detours, and ramp closures.
SIMCO also provided coordination with NYSDOT, NYCDOT OCMC, and other stakeholders. All plans were prepared in accordance with the MUTCD and NYSDOT/NYCDOT supplements.
