Pedestrian Safety Action Plan, NYSDOT Regions 8, 10, and 11, NY
The Pedestrian Safety Action Plan is a pedestrian safety campaign in New York State. It provides a $110 million, five-year commitment to improving pedestrian safety across Upstate New York and Long Island.
SIMCO was requested to complete intersection inventories at 76 unsignalized crosswalk locations in Region 8 and 41 locations in Region 10. These locations are critical because crossing roads can be very dangerous for pedestrians without pedestrian signals or even stop signs in the case of mid-block crossings.
SIMCO provided standard uncontrolled crosswalk checklists and photologs for each intersection. Included in the checklists were pedestrian improvement recommendations at each intersection. In Region 10, SIMCO was also tasked with creating Work Order contract drawings. Recommendations included adding and removing signs and crosswalk markings to abide by NYSDOT standard uncontrolled crosswalk standards. This information was added to the New York Statewide PSAP database for planned improvements.
