Replacement of the Post Avenue Bridge

Post Avenue Traffic Study and Maintenance and Protection of Traffic Design, Nassau County, NY

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) had scheduled the replacement of the Post Avenue Bridge due to the poor condition of the structure. The work included the demolition of the existing structure and the construction of a replacement bridge. During the reconstruction, Post Avenue will be reduced to two lane traffic for the abutment work for two months and will be completely closed to traffic bridge replacement for one weekend.

SIMCO was requested to perform a Traffic Impact Study prior to construction to determine the impacts of the diverted traffic volumes proposed to travel through the critical intersections along the designated alternative route. Impacts were identified as a result of diverted traffic from the bridge reconstruction along the proposed alternative route and mitigated through the use of signal improvements at some critical intersections.

SIMCO was also requested to design the Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) for the complete closure of Post Avenue under the LIRR tracks.

The services provided for this project included the following:
